Tour the historic district and visit a house museum with a guide. Cruise the Charleston Harbor to see Fort Sumter. You will still have time to explore the charms of the market and perhaps buy one of the famous sweet grass baskets.

Georgia's Ante-Bellum Trail. From $400. Four nights, all breakfasts and dinners and one lunch. Revisit the Battle of Atlanta at The Cyclorama, tour the Margaret Mitchell home and Museum, and travel "the road to Tara" touring and dining in ante-bellum homes. Other highlights with step-on guides are Madison "the town too beautiful to burn", lunch at the State Botanical Gardens, and tour the university town of Athens.
